- The text doesn't assume a large prior knowledge of law so the level is appropriate for business management students as well as law students. The level is essential as it draws together many different facets of law, such as: contract, tort, criminal, intellectual property, marketing, industrial relations etc.
- Designed to help students understand how all these different aspects of law interact through sport - each section begins with an introductory outline explaining the state of the law.
- Contemporary case examples and common interest subjects (such as doping, celebrity scandal, media, sports culture etc.) appear throughout the text to ignite students' interest and help them apply the knowledge to real life situations.
Sport plays a large part in modern Australian society and culture. As professionalism has developed, those involved with sport, be they players, managers, administrators or supporters, are increasingly looking to the law to protect their rights and resolve their problems. This textbook examines all the various principles of law, including tort and criminal liability, taxation, contract, intellectual property and industrial relations and the role they play in the world of Australian sport.

Readership: Sports Law is intended to be a prescribed text for students studying Sports Law as part of their degree. The text is applicable for law students taking sports law as an elective at undergraduate of postgraduate level; to business students completing a sports management major.

David Thorpe is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology, Sydney. Antonio Buti is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law, University of Western Australia. Chris Davies is an Associate Professor, School of Law, James Cook University. Saul Fridman is an Associate Professor at the School of Law, Curtin University. Paul Jonson is the Director of the Academic Programme, Sport Knowledge Australia and Associate Professor, School of Leisure, Sports and Tourism, University of Technology, Sydney.
