Thomas’ Sentencing Referencer provides clear and concise guidance on the operation of the Sentencing Code with concise summaries of the important case law.

It provides user-friendly tables and flowcharts, including tables on guilty plea reductions by percentage and key details of minimum sentences. For many, it is quite simply the usual starting point from which they can confidently find a path through the maze of legislation.

The 2025 edition has been updated to reflect the changes brought into force in the past 12 months:
- changes to magistrates’ courts sentencing powers
- amendments to the community order and suspended sentence order legislation
- the latest developments from the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) across a range of topics
Part 1 details the various sentencing orders, procedure, topics and principles.
Part 2 sets out the maximum sentences for the most common indictable offences.
Part 3 includes the most commonly referred to schedules, such as CJA 2003 Schs.15, 15B and 18A, SOA 2003 Schs.3 and 5 and SCA 2007 Sch.1.
Part 4 includes flow charts and tables for topics such as minimum sentences, guilty plea discounts and driving disqualification.
