Accounting Information Systems presents a modern, professional perspective that develops the necessary skills students need to be the accountants of the future. Through high-quality assessment and a tool-agnostic approach, students learn course concepts more efficiently and understand how course concepts are applied in the workplace through real-world application. To help students to be the accountants of the future, the authors incorporate their own industry experience and help showcase how AIS concepts are used through tools, spotlighting real accounting professionals and job opportunities.

This international edition provides new and expanded coverage of topics, including components of AIS, database forms and reports, and software tools for graphical documentation. The edition also includes new cases from across the world in the “In the Real World” feature in select chapters, showing how the concepts in the chapter apply to a real-world company or business. Every chapter now includes new Concept Review questions at the end of each section, focusing on key points students need to remember.

    • New international cases in “In the Real World” feature, including those on Volkswagen, Cantey Technology, MillerCoors, Lego, and Java Golf Club
    • Expanded coverage, with new sections on
      • Components of an AIS
      • Database Forms and Reports
      • Software Tools for Graphical Documentation
      • Directive 2014/56/EU of the European Parliament
      • Financial Modeling for Decision Making
      • Recent Cybersecurity Attacks on Optus and National Health Service (NHS)

Develop Data Analytics and Literacy Skills

    • Integrated Tableau Cases are tied to Julia's Cookies and provide students with the opportunity to work through real business scenarios while using Tableau as the data tool. These cases also include 19 unique data sets created by co-author Alicja Foksinska.

    Understand AIS Techniques in Practice

    • Julia's Cookies Continuing Case with Tableau allows students to apply AIS topics to realistic company scenarios. As students work through the course, they come across Julia's Cookies case references and assignments to see how topics come to life in various business scenarios and practice using various accounting applications and functions as the business continues to grow and expand.
    • Sample LinkedIn Job Posts are available at the start of each chapter and demonstrate the importance of the roles an individual in the field would require for a certain position. These sample posts are an engaging way for students to connect with course material and help students understand how job opportunities connect to the skills they're developing as well as visualize the different paths AIS can take them.
    • Featured Professional boxes spotlight real accounting professionals and their career paths, how they apply course concepts students are learning, and the professional skills they developed to get to where they are.

    Flexible Teaching

    • The modular content organization provides instructors with the flexibility to personalize their course and incorporate their own teaching style. Chapters are structured by fundamental topics that are foundational to all students and then move into specialized topics organized around three key themes: (1) Business Processes; (2) Risk and Assurance; (3) Technologies and Data Analytics. The content organization and independent chapters allow instructors to customize the order of chapters without impacting students' learning experience and understanding of course material.
    • Assess Learning with Confidence
Develop and build upon students' understanding of intermediate accounting applications and procedures with a heavily reworked test bank and questions varying in levels of difficulty including analysis problems, short answer, multiple-choice, analytics in action, Excel Templates, and more.
